El Lunes 11 de Agosto murió uno de mis actores favoritos, Robin Williams. Por lo menos tres de sus películas están en mi lista de favoritas del cine: Papá por Siempre, Patch Adams y Más Allá de los Sueños. La gran mayoría de nosotros nacimos y crecimos cuando él ya había hecho la serie Mork y Mindy y se hacía famoso con Buenos Días Vietnam y la Sociedad de los Poetas Muertos. Lo escuchamos como el Genio de Aladín, experimentamos los retos de la selva en Jumanji como Alan Parish y nos enseñó que hasta las máquinas pueden tener almas humanas como Andrew en el Hombre Bicentenario.

Es triste que una persona que con sus interpretaciones y personajes nos sacó tantas sonrisas y tantas lágrimas haya terminado así. Pero prefiero recordarlo como lo ví, haciendo los quehaceres del hogar como la Señora Doubtfire, peleando contra Garfio como Peter Pan, haciendo locuras como el carismático Genio, tratando personas amablemente como el buen Patch Adams, buscando a su esposa para salvarla del Infierno como el tenaz Chris Nielsen, enseñando poesía de una manera apasionada como el Profesor Keating o simplemente como era él, relatando como protegería a su pequeña Princesa Zelda en aquel anuncio de Nintendo.

Que en Paz descanse Robin Williams.

On Monday August 11 died one of my favorite actors, Robin Williams. At least three of his films are on my list of favorite movies ever: Mrs. Doubtfire, Patch Adams and What Dreams May Come. The vast majority of us were born and raised as he had done the series Mork and Mindy and became famous with Good Morning Vietnam and Dead Poets Society. We listen to him as the Genie from Aladdin, we experience with him the challenges of the jungle in Jumanji as Alan Parish and taught us that even machines can have human souls as Andrew in Bicentennial Man.

It’s sad that a person with his performances and characters brought us so many smiles and tears are finished in that way. But I prefer to remember him as I saw him, doing household chores as Mrs. Doubtfire, fighting against Hook as Peter Pan, doing crazy things as the charismatic Genie, attending people kindly as the smooth Patch Adams, looking for his wife to save her from Hell as the tenacious Chris Nielsen, teaching poetry in a passionate way as Professor Keating or just as he was, telling us about how would protect his little Princess Zelda in that spot from Nintendo.

Rest in Peace Robin Williams.
